Jail Alternatives Programs
The Sheriff’s Jail Alternatives Unit offers two programs:
- Home Detention Program (HD): Allows an inmate to serve their sentence at home while continuing to work at their regular job.
- Alternative Work Program (AWP): Allows an inmate to perform eight to ten hours of general labor for each day of jail time.
Participation Eligibility
Applicants are evaluated on a case-by-case basis as a continuation of the classification process. Factors include the severity of the current charge, circumstances of the case, victim impact, criminal history, prior program participation, and in-custody behavior. Placement is determined in the best interest of public safety.
Approval or denial is at the sole discretion of the Sheriff’s Department. These programs are a privilege, not a right.
