SDC-East opened March 17, 2017, under AB 900 Phase II funding. The facility introduced an Open Booking model, allowing incarcerated persons to be seated in an open area during booking.
SDCE houses up to 559 individuals and includes maximum security units, mental/medical unit, hospital unit, receiving, transportation, and a medical clinic with dental office.
