In September of 2001 the City of Hughson entered into an agreement for the County of Stanislaus to provide law enforcement services for the City of Hughson. On September 13, 2011, this agreement was extended for an additional two-year term, expiring in June 2013. The Department is currently in negotiation with the City and is requesting to extend the current contract on a month to month basis until the Department can return to the Board for final approval of a new contract.
Both full-time and extra-help employees of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department staff Hughson Police Services. Five Deputy Sheriff positions and one Legal Clerk are fully funded by the City of Hughson. The Lieutenant, who serves as the Police Chief, is shared with the City of Waterford.

Chief Larry Seymour
Chief Seymour has 28 years of law enforcement experience, all with the Sheriff's Office. He was hired as a custodial deputy in 1987 and after 10 years of working in the jails he moved to patrol operations. He has been assigned to patrol, detectives and Internal Affairs. In 2007 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and has supervised deputies in patrol and investigations. In 2011 he became the Chief Deputy Coroner. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2015 and was assigned to Court Services. He is currently assigned as the Chief of Police in Hughson and manager of the Special Vehicle Operations Unit.
